Enable Research exists to provide independent, evidence-based analysis on the issues shaping Ireland’s infrastructure, environment, energy systems and economy. This code of ethics sets out the principles that guide every piece of work we publish and every editorial decision we make.
These principles are not aspirational statements. They are practical commitments that shape how we research, write and present information to our readers.
Independence
Enable Research operates independently and is not affiliated with any government department, political party, university, lobby group, trade body or commercial interest. Our analysis is not influenced by any external organisation, advertiser or funding source.
Where we reference or analyse the work of a particular organisation, government body or research institution, we do so on the basis of the evidence and data they have published, not on the basis of any relationship with that organisation.
We do not accept payment or consideration in exchange for editorial coverage. Our conclusions are determined by the evidence, not by any commercial or political interest.
Accuracy and Evidence
All content published on enable-research.ie is grounded in verifiable evidence. We source data from official statistics, government publications, regulatory filings, peer-reviewed research and established reporting bodies. Where we rely on a specific data point, we identify the source so that readers can verify it independently.
We distinguish clearly between established facts, provisional data and our own analysis or interpretation. Where data is contested, incomplete or subject to revision, we say so. We do not present estimates as confirmed figures or preliminary findings as settled conclusions.
When we make an error, we correct it promptly and transparently in accordance with our Corrections Policy.
Fairness and Balance
Enable Research is committed to presenting issues fairly. Where a topic involves competing perspectives, differing policy positions or genuine uncertainty, we present the relevant viewpoints and the evidence supporting each rather than favouring one position over another.
We do not shy away from drawing conclusions where the evidence clearly supports them. Independence does not mean false equivalence. Where the data points clearly in one direction, we say so, while explaining the basis for that conclusion.
Transparency
We are transparent about our methods, our sources and our limitations. If a dataset has known gaps, if a government report has been disputed, or if our analysis involves assumptions, we make this clear to the reader rather than presenting a simplified or misleading picture.
We do not use anonymous sources. All data and claims published on this site are attributed to named organisations, published reports or verifiable public records.
Conflicts of Interest
Enable Research has no financial, political or institutional relationships that could compromise our editorial independence. We do not hold positions in the industries or sectors we cover, and we do not provide consultancy, advisory or lobbying services to any organisation.
In the event that any potential conflict of interest arises in relation to a specific piece of content, it will be disclosed clearly within the article concerned.
Respect for Persons and Communities
Our research and analysis often touches on issues that directly affect communities, workers and individuals across Ireland. We are mindful of this responsibility and take care to present data and analysis in a way that respects the people behind the numbers.
We do not sensationalise data or use statistics selectively to create misleading impressions. Where our analysis concerns vulnerable communities or sensitive topics, we take particular care to ensure our coverage is accurate, proportionate and respectful.
Review
This code of ethics is reviewed regularly and updated where necessary to reflect developments in best practice. It was last reviewed in March 2026.
